When prepping the skin or facial area for laser, surgery or a deep peel its important to,
Have your consultation, and remove all active products that are instructed you.
Stay out of the sun or radiation of all kinds, this weakens tissue and can slow healing.
Hydrate your skin as much as possible the weeks adding up to your procedure.
I recommend when prepping the skin to set it up for the most amazing results you seek out a hydrating treatment, my favorite is hydrafacial MD. This is a patented technology that reaches all the layers of skin for maximum skin health, detoxification, which is extremely important to your Surgeon, or Esthetician. When detoxifying and hydrating the skin you lessen the chance of infection and speeds the healing process.
It’s also important to think about what you’re trying to accomplish, are you trying to remove uneven skin tones?
If so, then for best results its best to use brighteners on the skin for 8 weeks prior to your procedure. Using brighteners will encourage damaged cells to surface and when you receive your treatment the damage can come all the way off. Keep in mind not to over dry the skin. Find a brightener thats suspended in hyaluronic acid, my favorite is Le Mieux brightening serum it has 8 boosting agents and 4 potent peptides.
Are you trying to firm the skin? When choosing how to maximize firming the skin its best to use retinols, vitamin C and LED light therapy simultaneously, these are all collagen stimulators. It’s also important to note these power houses help to reduce inflammation, and when growing new collagen fibers your skins protein increases. Then when it’s time for your procedure you’re in a great position for the best results for a youthful natural firmness to the skin. Vitamin C is best used on the skin in a powder form. Vitamin C is an unstable molecule and should be fresh when it’s put on the skin. The powder should be mixed into a serum each time for best performance. Led lights are not all same as well, find a multi wave lengths light. I love Cellumapro or Light Stim they both have the multi wave lengths to grow new collagen. Retinol should be encapsulated and be in high percentage only to be used at night.
My favorite is by Cosmedix it’s chiral correct and encapsulated with a 4%, and 8% to choose from.
Are you trying to remove scars? Prepping the skin for scar removal can be tricky, however micro needling, and light peels, and microdermabrasion are great ways to prepare for the big peel or laser resurfacing. Depending on the depth of scaring it may take several treatments working up to the main procedure. Micro needling is the best for pit scars, and keloid scars. The micro needling is able to break up the deeper tissue and allow for fresh tissue to come through. While more surface scars can be prepped with light peels and microdermabrasion. The lighter surface scars will fade with every treatment leading up to the main procedure for more dramatic resurfacing.
Remember The hydration aspect of all this, the more hydrated the skin the better all the above will work for you.
When the skin is hydrated it’s plump, it’s healthy, and it’s able to withstand many procedures. The skin is an organ and a tissue and needs to be prepped before you’re considering peels, laser, or plastic surgery. You can hydrate the skin with hydrafacial MD within the prep work and with great home care.
